Privacy & Trust
Your voicemails hold some of your most personal moments. We take that seriously. Here's exactly how we handle your data — no fine print, no surprises.
Last updated: July 13, 2026
Who Can Call Your Number
Only the people you choose. Your phone number is shared by you — on an invitation, a sign at your event, or a message to friends. There's no app to download and no account to create. Anyone with a phone can call and leave a message, but only because you gave them the number.
Who Can Listen
Only you. Your voicemails are private and can only be accessed through your account. We do not routinely access recordings and only do so when required for technical support or legal compliance. They're your memories — meant for your ears.
Data Ownership
You own your recordings. Completely. Download them to your computer, share them with family, or delete them whenever you want. We're just holding onto them for you — they belong to you, and you're always in control.
Storage & Retention
Your messages are stored securely for 1 year from your purchase date. We recommend downloading your recordings regularly so you always have your own copy. You can download everything directly from your dashboard at any time during that window.
Caller Phone Numbers
When someone calls your Phone Keepsakes number, their phone number is collected as part of the voicemail record. Here's how we handle it:
- Caller phone numbers are visible to the event owner through our Caller Insights feature, so you can see who left each message
- If SMS confirmations are enabled, caller phone numbers are used to send a brief thank-you text to the caller after they leave a message
- Caller phone numbers are never sold, shared with third parties, or used for marketing purposes — by us or by the event owner through our platform
No Selling of Data
We will never sell, share, or monetize your audio recordings or caller information. Ever. Your grandmother's birthday message isn't a data point to us — it's a treasure. Our business model is simple: you pay for the service, and that's how we keep the lights on. Your data is not the product.
Third-Party Infrastructure
To deliver the service, your data passes through a small number of carefully selected providers:
- Twilio — handles all phone calls, number provisioning, and voicemail recording, and looks up the caller's line type and (where available) caller-ID name. Caller audio and phone numbers are transmitted through Twilio's infrastructure.
- Amazon Web Services (AWS) — stores your voicemail recordings and account data.
- OpenAI — transcribes voicemail audio (Whisper), generates custom greeting audio when you use text-to-speech, and, when you enable content screening, checks the transcript text for inappropriate language. Audio and text are sent over an encrypted connection; OpenAI does not use API data for model training and retains inputs only briefly for abuse monitoring.
- OpenStreetMap (Nominatim) — converts a caller's approximate location into a city/region label for the Caller Insights feature.
- Stripe — processes all payments. Your card details are entered directly into Stripe's secure form and never touch our servers.
- Cloudflare — provides content delivery, TLS encryption, and bot/DDoS protection at the network edge.
- Operational providers — a transactional email provider (to send you notifications), an error-monitoring service (Rollbar, to detect and fix technical problems), and internal alerting (Slack). These may incidentally process personal data contained in an email or an error report.
None of these providers receive more data than necessary to perform their specific function, and none are permitted to use your data for their own purposes beyond service delivery. For a full breakdown of each provider's security certifications, see our Security page.
Security
All of your data is encrypted — both while it's being sent to us and while it's stored on our servers. Your account is protected with secure authentication, and we follow industry best practices to keep everything safe. We treat your voicemails with the same care you do.
Web Analytics & Advertising
On our website we use analytics and advertising technologies to understand how visitors find and use the site and to measure our marketing. These include Google Analytics and Google Ads (loaded via Google Tag Manager), the Meta (Facebook) Pixel, Ahrefs Analytics, and Pinterest. They may set cookies and collect your IP address, browser and device type, the pages you view, and how you arrived at the site (for example, from an ad). This data is used only to improve the site and our advertising; it is never linked to your voicemail recordings or account content, and we do not sell it. You can opt out of these at any time through our Cookie Policy. You can also opt out of Google Analytics with Google's opt-out add-on and manage ad personalization in your Google and Meta account settings.
Cookies
We use cookies that are strictly necessary to run the site (for example, to keep you signed in and to protect forms), and — on our public marketing pages only — optional analytics and advertising cookies described above. You can accept or decline the optional cookies at any time. For the full list and how to manage them, see our Cookie Policy.
Children's Privacy
Phone Keepsakes is intended for adults. You must be at least 18 years old to create an account, and the service is not directed to children. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children. If you believe a child has provided us with personal information, contact us at [email protected] and we will delete it.
International Data Transfers
We operate from Canada and serve customers in Canada and the United States. Some of our providers (including AWS, OpenAI, and Stripe) process data in the United States and other countries. By using the service you understand that your information may be stored and processed outside your home country, under contractual safeguards with each provider that require them to protect it.
Your California Privacy Rights
If you are a California resident, you have the right to know what personal information we collect, to request access to or deletion of it, and to not be discriminated against for exercising these rights. We do not sell or share your personal information, so there is no "Do Not Sell" to opt out of. To exercise any of these rights, email us at [email protected].
Who We Are & How to Reach Us
Phone Keepsakes is the party responsible for the personal information described in this policy. To exercise any privacy right, ask a question, or make a request, email us at [email protected] or use our contact page.
